A Mason Jar Cocktail Shaker Will Shake Up Your Next Event

One part strong Southern roots and one part très Brooklyn style. Combine and shake well. That’s the idea behind Mason Shakers–a cocktail shaker based on the icon Mason jar. We have W&P Design to thank for this cocktail creation, and we’re thrilled to be renting them at Please B Seated.

The Mason Shakers got a shout-out in the New York Times

We caught up with Mason Shaker co-creator Eric Prun to find out what’s on the horizon for the design firm and see what he’s drinking these days.

Please B Seated: Can you tell me a little about your background and walk us through how you came up with the concept for Mason Shakers?

Eric: W&P Design is a manufacturing and design company founded by two best friends raised in the South. Now based out of Brooklyn, New York, W&P Design makes handcrafted products inspired by combined passions for vintage Americana, Southern sensibility, and New York industrialism. From our workshop to your countertop, we strive to bring you unique goods that pay tribute to both bygone American eras and modern usability, while staying true to our Southern roots. The Mason Shaker was an idea we played around with and worked on for a year or two before designing the first prototype–it’s been a great journey since!

Please B Seated: Where are Mason Shakers made?

Eric: We have a design studio in Brooklyn and a shipping and assembly space in Forest Virginia, and split design/manufacturing between the two spaces. The space in Brooklyn is a bit tight for larger production runs.

Please B Seated: Do you have a favorite cocktail?

Eric: My favorite currently would be the Rosemary Bourbon Maple Sour we have been making this winter:

ROSEMARY MAPLE BOURBON SOUR

serves 2

3 shots good bourbon

1½ shots freshly squeezed lemon juice

1 shot dark amber maple syrup

1 large sprig rosemary + 2 small sprigs

  1. Combine the bourbon, lemon juice and maple syrup in your Mason Shaker.
  2. Crush the large sprig of rosemary in your hand and add to the shaker.
  3. Add ice to above the level of the liquid, cap and shake vigorously for 20 seconds.
  4. Strain mixture into rocks glasses containing large cubes of ice and garnish with remaining small sprigs of rosemary.

Please B Seated: Does your company, W&P Design, have any other products on the horizon?

Absolutely! We have partnered with a Nordic soapstone quarry and are offering whiskey stones nested in pint size mason jars this spring. We are also working on a much larger in house project for the summer–details will follow.
